i'm attending pitchfork for the first time this year. i am visiting chicago for the first time. so far it seems like i'm paying 90 dollars to see pavement. which is fine by me. i did hear that modest mouse will be doing all requests, if that is so, my first request is that it be a 3 piece modest mouse. or a 4 piece with that tatted extra guitar player that used to be with them in the beginning.

i know it's late. but i was a little uninspired to post it for sometime. it's a long story i hope you enjoy it

japan was amazing
everyday we ate like kings and i tried so many styles
even korean bbq which was over priced
and usually we stuck to the rule of go a couple blocks
off the main strip and find food and it was always good
but the korean bbq night was on a main strip it was ok

we drank a lot
i started on the plane
double jack and coke
one suitcase had only pillows towels and 3 bottles of tequila - customs didn't seem to mind

the 1st night we were tired from plane so we ate and one guy passed out. i wanted to go out. my friend who lives in japan and the only one who speaks japanese asked us to wait on a corner for him to run an errand. which turned into let's go into stores and see what's going on. we lost our friend, ate raw chicken sashimi, ended up in a gentlemen's club, found upset friend, end of day one.

my friend teaches english and lives in osaka, he is mostly fluent. we (me and 2 guys) speak no japanese. unlike europe or other travels, no one speaks english in japan. which has pros and cons

i met up with a japanese friend in osaka day one. we drank all day. he showed us around the city. it is bigger than los angeles. it was pretty cool. food again, amazing.

day 2 or 3, we traveled to nagoya to watch a sumo tournament. i knew what sumo was, but wasn't like huge into it. however, it turned out to be one of the best times i had there. we made side bets on who we thought would win. some matches lasted half a second, other's could take a minute of so. it was awesome. from nagoya we took super speed bullet crazy train to tokyo

in tokyo we got the hook up on hotel from some girl. 40 a night in a decent spot. near shinjuku station. i love okonomiyaki. a potato pancake mix squid bonito egg batter thing you cook yourself. one night we found all you sing all you can drink karoake, enough said. i went to harajuku and saw the freaks, but wasn't really amazed by it, there are plenty here in tempe. i visited my first temple there and was very pleased. we went to the sony building. we found a small place to have drinks one night that was run by a husband/wife/son. we drank with all of them until 4 a.m. playing beatles songs on his guitar and singing. it was amazing. lots of walking. ginzu (i think) district, very rich. imperial garden. (again pics on fb) and we took a boat ride around tokyo which was very cool, and i got to visit the life size gundam robot. boo ya

osaka and tokyo go for days. but, they were very efficient, clean and quiet. trains run like arteries. i never once felt uncomfortable and truly felt like i had gotten away from everything. the people have some of the best customer service i've ever experienced.

after 3 long exhausting days in the largest metropolis earth currently has to offer, we made our way to the small prefecture of fukui. which was very welcome. it was misty mountains and a color of green that screams life. we stayed one night at a ryokan, which is like a traditional inn. this ryokan also had a few onsens, which are hot spring mineral water baths. we had our own private one for a hour. and we could also use the public ones at anytime. we were giving yukatas to wear. the 4 of us paid 150 dollars each. for one night in the best resort i've ever been to. unlimited bathing in the hot springs which were so relaxing and amazing. an amazing room. a 7 course dinner, that quite honestly might have been the best meal i've ever experienced in my life. all the beer we could drink, some sake. a 3 course breakfast. and massage chairs like you've never ever sat in in america. again the service was outstanding.

the next day, my friend kayoko picked us up and took us to these cliffs where people used to commit suicide. we climbed around on them. we went to the beach. we went to meet kayo's family and stay at her house. we went to a temple that was in the mountains covered in moss that was like walking in heaven. it was amazing. i wanted to sell every material item i own move into the temple and become a monk, then we went to dinner. i ate raw horse sashimi. and the neck fat of horse. i drank.

the next day we took a train to kyoto, which is the old capital of japan and is known for lots of temples. this was the most touristy i ever saw japan. i got annoyed. i was being selfish. i was so used to not seeing europeans, now they were everywhere. i saw some amazing temples and again ate some amazing food. at this point in the trip we had been non stop walking/drinking/sight seeing/everything. we were all ready for a day away from each other and some decent sleep. i wish i had stayed in fukui an extra day.

i took a day by myself walking around osaka. trying to get some shopping done. i got a foot massage. i listened to a lot of hip hop and pimp walked it through the town. i found a bar that sold brooklyn lager and bought a couple bottles.

we went to kobe. i bought a horse mask. i wore it everywhere. i wish i had found it earlier in the trip. the japanese people are very reserved and keep to themselves. but when i wear a horse mask, they all laugh and come alive. old women, young children, it was great. i finally got japan to acknowledge my american ass. i ate a kobe beef hamburger. we went to a baseball game. this game was by the hannshin tigers and the tokyo giants. which in japan is equivalent to seeing the red sox play the yankees. it was sold out. in japan, baseball games are byob. amen. i wore the horse mask. the boy in front of me wore the horse mask, as did his grandfather. in japan, i hate to say it, they are bigger fans of baseball than we are. during the 7th inning stretch, everyone stands up with a different colored blown up balloon not tied at the end. all at once they let them go and you see a filled stadium release thousands of balloons, similar to seeing the flaming lips i suppose. we went out for drinks.

we went and saw a temple that has a statue covered in "living" moss. or something like that. people come all day long and say their prayer and then pour a little water on the statue to keep the moss going. it was neat. after seeing the temple in fukui though, i was pretty much "meh" to anything else. we went to an observation deck that stood between two large skyscrapers in osaka and got a good view of the whole kobe/kyoto/osaka metropolis.

i bought a yukata and got some nice compliments on how well it fit. we went to a fireworks show. in japan (and i would imagine china/korea too) fireworks are done the right way. that reminds me, two things before i go on. one, you can buy fireworks, good ones, in the "7-11's" there. kickass. two, i spent one night with my friend in drenching rain, drinking large amounts of tequila and shooting fireworks. all nights. we had roman candle fights across a bridge. we shot so many colors and fire into the sky, i'm very surprised we went arrested. once a cop found our discarded already shot works while we refilled and once an old lady came out screaming in japanese how you can't shoot fireworks here. on this night while looking for somewhere to cool off to not get arrested we found my favorite sushi bar. in japan, there are plenty of small little restaurants that will consist of a bar/sushi bar with 5 to 6 chairs. and maybe 2 or 3 side tables. one chef. his wife will probably be there in the back cooking. best chef ever. i loved his sushi. i ate there 3 nights in a row. we drank. we laughed. people loved my funny antics and bought me drinks and food. loved this placed. loved it. anyways back to fireworks. we went to a fireworks show. imagine the coolest/best finale you've ever seen in all of your life during a fireworks show and that is how this fireworks show started. they shot off so many fucking fireworks that a large dark smoke cloud covered the sky towards the end and hid some of the show. it was so fucking spectacular. mostly everyone dresses traditionally in yukatas during these events. we did the same. amazing

one night i ate fugu. the poison blow fish. yes it fucks you up. if you eat 4 to 5 slices of sashimi you will feel it. it's like taking half a valium and drinking a couple beers. it is a neuro toxin. it tells your muscles to shut off. it works. i ate a lot of it. it was cool. it lasts 30 minutes of so. i also ate the sperm sack of this fish. it was delicious.

i love japan. i loved that people didn't bother me. i loved that i felt comfortable. i loved beer on a train. i loved my flask of tequila. i loved the toilets. the toilets were so fucking cool. my butt was so happy with me. the food was so much fun. i ate like a king. i loved that everywhere i went there was a cartoon description of whatever was going on. i loved that it was also accompanied by a nurturing ringtone. i love how they do it over there.

i took a sleeping pill coming home. i slept the whole flight. i had never experienced jet lag. this was my first international trip. i had horrible jet lag for 7 days. it sucked. my job sucked. i didn't sleep. i was a zombie. i might go back. i might never come back here.

whats up deuce. saw dinosaur jr and built to spill at stubbs tonight. Dino was so goddamn loud. My ears are going nuts right now. They opened with Thumb, then played The Lung, then a bunch of stuff, then some more stuff, then Freak Scene, and they closed with I Don't Wanna Go There which I think is the best of their post reunion stuff. BTS played next, they played a bunch of older stuff and only one or two from the new record. They didn't play all that long because Doug's voice was sort of fucked off or something. They closed the main set with untrustable part two and then they played going against your mind for the encore. It was good as usual. BTS's light show was kind of nuts which I wasn't expecting. Anyway, thought of this place randomly when I was at the show and decided to post this. Hope everyone is well.

i was so excited when i got home today from the casino. i was in a no limit tourney and although i didn't place i was happy for how long i lasted for my first tourney. lots of morons playing poker it seems. thanks espn. anyways i was so happy to come home and see a package at my door. everyone loves getting a package at their door. you know you secretly hope the fedex/ups man stops in front of your place. anyways, i got my check from dr. drew. he's such a nice man, i only wanted 500 dollars for the amp. but he sent me 2 thousand. he wants me to cash it and send some of it back to him along with the amp. i think i'll mail him some dried up dog shit instead. this is getting funny. i hope he calls me soon to check if i got the check. it's hot here. less than a month to japan. wu-tang, wu-tang

i love the new album so much, i got to see them last night and though i'm sick and i was tired and it was a sunday i can't remember a better show maybe in my life.

i thought the live drummer really brought it to some next level. oh and max tundra opened, i remember our dan didn't like him from the sxsw thread but i thought he ruled too, though i already liked the songs i knew. maybe he was better this time, he was kind of a perfect opener because he was dancing so much and then i guess he was flying back to england or WHATEVER today and he couldn't fit this big yamaha keyboard so he announced he'd give it away to the best dancer and he then he did! but anyways he really like "warmed" the room up i guess and i liked that because he wasn't from canada he didn't have this idea of ottawa sucks in his head so that when everyone was standing around kind of all spaced apart it wasn't like, here we go again this city sucks so much see?, he was just like why are you all so static let's move a bit and kept playing to try to make it happen. i kind of gained an appreciation i think for the way this city doesn't show respect really to people that don't show respect for it, illustrated i guess inversely by this little man from the UK who asked politely for some participation and then got it. an attitude i wish cokey jam bands from toronto taking an hour to set up for playing second on a four band bill would consider taking on.
i could have won the keyboard if it wasn't 8:30 pm on a sunday after mother's day festivities, i'd had like no time to drink.
this was teh last north american date on the tour but shit dudes buy that album, it's called "begone dull care."

it all started at 6 a.m. leaving tempe
driving 5 hours to page az
paying 32 dollars per person for an approved guide to take me onto reservation
which i understand kinda
don't charge and people fuck up an awesome piece of nature
but 32 dollars to be grouped and pushed through a beautiful canyon
meh, was kind of a pain
but it is worth seeing with your own 2 eyes (or 4 eyes for some of you)
at least once in your lifetime i'd say
water carves away sandstone flash floods over time

drove back down to flagstaff
went to a deer farm
which also had peacocks, reindeer, a camel, llamas, pigs, and some other animals i didn't see

i love talking birds
these deers love the shit out of the feed you buy and feed them
they gang up on you
they bit me ass more than they ate out of my hand
it's a sneak attack diversion to get you to drop the bucket
but little did they know i like having my ass bit

SXSW 09: the recap

My ears are ringing, my feet hurt, and I'm kind of miserable being at work right now, but this week was a huge success. I ended up seeing 47 bands and Eugene Mirman this week. I saw a couple of bands more than once; The Calm Blue Sea (3 times), Marnie Stern (2 times) and HEALTH (2 times). The best things I saw all week were (in no particular order) Caspian at Red Seven last night, Marnie Stern at Club Deville on Wednesday, The Wrens at Mohawk on Friday, The Paper Chase at Club Deville on Wednesday, King Khan and the Shrines at Bird's Barbershop on Thursday, Here We Go Magic at Mohawk on Wednesday, HEALTH at Ace's Lounge on Thursday, and Irepress at Red Seven last night. The worst thing I saw all week was unfortunately Explosions in the Sky on Saturday night at Auditorium Shores and it wasn't their fault at all. They were playing a HUGE free show in front of what has been estimated as 10-20,000 people and the sound was dogshit. The overhead mics on the drums were nonexistent, the guitars were absent from the PA most of the time, and everytime they got really loud the PA would just cut out. I wanted to cry. It was the bands biggest show of all time, the setting was perfect, it should have been amazing, but the sound system couldn't handle it and it just crushed me.

I'm definitely never going to an event at "The Pure Volume House" again as the open bar couldn't make up for the ridiculously slow moving lines, overzealous security and general piss poor-ness of their setup.

I went to this show at a tiny little bar on the east side called Ms Beas that was put on by Todd P, the NYC promoter. The show was very unorganized in a purposely unorganized and DIY to make us look cool kind of way and Todd P came off as a huge prick the whole time. It was cool seeing Marnie Stern and HEALTH there in such a small venue, but the sound was shit and it felt just like I was living the Human Giant video at Other Music where Aziz talks about Devendra Banhart playing a show in a dumpster in east Chelsea like it was the coolest show of the year. This is what this felt like, a bunch of ultra hip people looking flat out ridiculous standing in a parking lot and listening to bands on a shitty PA and thinking its the best thing ever. Lo-fi is great if that's what you are going for, but 99% of bands only sound better when they are playing through an adequate PA on an adequate stage. /end rant. Overall, the weather was great, the beer was cold, the music was ample and loud, and I saw a ton of friends I don't get to see all the time. Oh, and also, I met Annie Clark (aka St Vincent) and I totally geeked out. She was really nice and is tiny as hell. It's over, I had a blast, everyone should experience SXSW at least once. It's pretty hard to beat.

SXSW 09....it begins

SXSW Music officially starts tomorrow. I have worked an insane amount the past two weeks so that I could take the entire length of SXSW Music off from work and I finished that up 3 hrs ago. I am now drinking a Lone Star Tallboy and am giddily planning out my first day of shows. Truth be told, this shit started on Saturday night and I have already been to two parties and seen 8 bands, including Evangelicals last night at the Decider party at Mohawk who just kicked the hell out of me with their show. I loved them. If I don't leave SXSW 09 with them in my top two or three shows, I will be seeing some amazing shows this week, because they were phenomenal last night. So loud and so so entertaining. Their bass player played all of these crazy ass Peter Hook-ish lines and was a real treat to watch. My sister, who flew in from NYC for the week, commented that all he did was rip the bass and sing ooo-ooo-ooo from time to time. Highly recommended if you get the chance to check them out. Tomorrow I have M. Ward, Port O'Brien, Tallest Man On Earth, Megafaun, Evangelicals (again), King Khan & The BBQ Show, The Drones, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, The Thermals (really excited to see them), Wavves, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Vetiver, The Mae Shi, Here We Go Magic, Marnie Stern, Abe Vigoda, and Lovvers all on my radar. A local music blog here in Austin puts out this sampler CD every year before SXSW to showcase some of the local bands who are playing the festival. It's a decent snapshot of a couple of the more popular local bands right now in Austin. The blog is called Austin Sound, and the Sampler can be downloaded here. Of the bands on the sampler, the ones that I really like are The Eastern Sea, Sunset, Ume, The Boxing Lesson, and The Great Nostalgic. I haven't listened to this whole thing yet so I don't know how high quality or recent these tracks are so the awesomeness that is these listed bands in a live setting may not translate perfectly. What can you do. Anyway, whilst on the topic of local bands and SXSW and whatnot, my roommates band is playing a bunch of shows and it just occured to me that I don't think I ever linked to their finished LP (which I think is really fantastic) on here. I think i may have linked to some of their demos back in the day, but can't be sure of that. The band's called The Calm Blue Sea and you can dl their album here. They get compared to Explosions in the Sky a lot. I'm sure you'll be able to hear why. I'm working an insane amount of hours over the next 6 days in order to be 100% off for all 4 days of SXSW Music and that Sunday as well. It's going to be killer, but I am so excited. The Wrens are playing a couple of shows and Caspian is playing and Dead Confederate is playing and I've RSVPed to 8million parties and shows and goddammit I wish it was Wednesday already.

I don't know if anyone aside from me still actively follows The Decemberists but they just released the first track from their new album on their website (here). It's called "The Rake's Song" and I do believe that it is a keeper. I love it when a band excites me so much before their album is released (or even leaked as far as I can tell) by putting out a single, different sounding, track to whet the appetite. I was mildly excited about The Hazards of Love before this, but am full on excited about it now. INFANTICIDE!

it's been so long, and i've been so lost. i've stopped by occasionally and read a lot of the posts during my usual hypnotic click-through-the-internet-before-bed swing, and even woken up the next morning to find half a post written but never posted (then never posted).

i'm really putting my final touches on a best of 2007 list, being so far behind in listening to all the music being cranked out. so my 2008 list is all retreads, and now that i've seen all the blog lists and shit i'll start listening to that and my 2008 list should be done around... May. anyway, my guess is that i listened to 25 new albums that came out this year and my five favorites were

but 2008 for me was about being back in the states and being able to see live shows. this year, mostly in Denver, I saw the Constantines, Silver Jews, Octopus Project, Low, Calexico, Malkmus, Eef Barzelay, and Caribou/Fuck Buttons (in dallas). My favorite three shows stand above though, and they were

In 2009, I'm moving again. This time to Korea. My girlfriend and I are going to teach English for a year, make money, and travel around Asia. We'll be teaching elementary school in Jeonnam province, in the southwest of the peninsula. It won't be like Kenya for a lot of reasons, but we're pretty excited to be off doing shit overseas again pretty soon. I'll have internet this time and probably a blog rather than mass emails... I'll keep the deuce posted. Or maybe I could just post all my ruminations here and point my aunts and uncles this way.

Merriweather Post Pavilion

I know I was sort of late on the AC bandwagon (only really got into them since Strawberry Jam) but I just got a vinyl rip of Merriweather and it is so so good. It's very dense but completely accesible and the whole thing just makes me want to dance like an idiot. Summertime Clothes is the catchiest thing I've heard in months. It's on waffles and I assume elsewhere as well. Check it out, definitely worth it.

a while ago i said i wanted to send every deucer a super 8 camera and some film and see what i get back. i think we're a pretty geo- and demo- graphically diverse and interesting group. i want to do this with other friends and family members of mine, but i still want every deuce person to be involved.

so here's the deal.. i will send everyone (one person at a time) a package containing a camera, a super 8 film cartridge or two, and some basic instructions. then you use up the film, and send everything back to me. that's pretty much it. you can do whatever you want with it. just dont break the camera..

i'm back. wow. i had a really good time in new york. i took my mom for 3 days for her 50th bday. we arrived monday at penn station early afternoon. walked to hotel. went to e.s.b. (was with mom it was toursisty time) empire was funny though cuz i made a lil mastercard statement. tickets for 2 to e.s.b 40 dollars, number of floors to get to observatory deck 86, wait time to get to said deck 120 minutes, watching a girls dress fly up from the wind on top of e.s.b. priceless. anyways that was alright. had reservations made at becco, small nice italian place. dinner was amazing. over 100 italian wines only 25 bucks each. took a cab through times square at night, neat. next day started at st pat's cathedral. walking down 5th to hit up shops. had to see f.a.o. schwartz. people were playing chopsticks on the piano! there's a line to get into the apple store. i laughed at that. then went to the met cuz musuem of modern art isn't open on tue. the met was amazing. we spent close to 4 hours there. it got to the point where i was just snapping shots to look at things later because i wanted to see each room, i think i did. amazing. so much great work was there. after that met up w/ a friend and he took us to mcsorley's the oldest pub in nyc. they only serve light or dark beer. it comes in 6 ounce pub glasses. when you order a beer you get like 2 or 3 of these 6 oz beers. so ordering a round for a table 5 or 6 people, a dublin born mick waltzes out with like 20 baby beers in his hands. i got drunk. for an appetizer, they bring you american cheese, onions, a package of saltines and there's a horseradish mustard. pretty fucking good stuff. we did a lil more bar hopping then went to bobby flay's restaurant. i was lil drunk at that point and prolly didn't need to be going to a place owned by a guy i don't care for much. it was okay, as we had just got my drinks my friend mentioned he knew where mario batoli's place was and wish i had gone there. but again it was okay. i was prolly a lil loud and obnoxious there but fuck it. last day there took the subway into the bronx. had faboulous seats at yankee stadium. watched the moose pitch one of the better games he's had all season. it was a great time. but now you're in fenway and it's on! i'm going to sunday's game at fenway park, that will be one of the best times of my life. the pic of e.s.b i left up here is from the roof top bar of my hotel. it was a quaint lil scenester place playing beirut and what have you. but when you look up e.s.b was right there. my mom had a good time. so did i. i think for only 3 days we accomplished a pretty good amount. would've liked to have done more but fuck all that walking was getting to me. and the humidity. gosh. anyways if you're still reading, i love you

so i wanted a blu ray player for my new t.v. so i bought the playstation 3 metal gear bundle. why not right, it's the same cost as a blu ray player might as well get some gaming out of it. so then i started playing metal gear. the movies are so long and boring, but the graphics and game play is top notch. so i beat it. so i started playing metal gear online. now i have a new friend on my list of addictions. i really only wanted the thing for the new street fighter, final fantasy and tekken due out early next year. but shooting people online is kinda exciting. and blu ray movies are the shit. and i saw wall e. it was awesome. i wish i had gone stoned. and the new hulk is good. and i'm excited for dark knight. and i go on vacation in 2 weeks for 2 weeks. yippee

^Camping at a waterfall near my house. I visited this place often; it's completely remote and wonderfully peaceful.
^My house in its final form on the day I left. I seriously doubt that I'll ever again live in a place as great as this one was.

^The center of my village, Baranga, when the morning milk co-op truck came on my last day there. Two staples shops (rice, fat, soap), two cafes (bread and tea only), a seamstress, and a corn grinding mill made up the economy. The electricity wires were installed while I was there but I never got to see it turned on.

^On top of Mt. Kenya, Christmas morning last year. ~16,350 ft. Best Christmas ever.

I can't decide what I think of them. They are very different, so that's good I guess. But they are also chock full of gay. i washed my hat today to get ready for the new season. i didn't wash it at all since beginning of spring training last year. i don't really care for superstitions but i think it's a little neat to keep a couple small ones to yourself. this is the water from washing it. that squiggly line under the brim used to be daisuke's signature but sweat wore it off. after taking these pics it dawned on me i shoulda had "before" pics. the salt stains went all the way around and up and down. pretty nasty. go sox. and i don't want to hear about any preseason win yankee boy. good luck to all teams.

Ok, I know you all probably hate these posts every year, but SXSW Music started today and since I never write about anything anyway, here's at least something. Today I ditched out of work at around 1:30pm and headed downtown with no plan whatsoever. I've been incredibly busy lately and I didn't have time to really plan out a schedule this year. I headed to Emo's lounge first and caught a good, but really poorly attended, set by locals Zykos (www.myspace.com/zykos) then I hopped down the street to the Mohawk for a set by a band called We Barbarians who are from Long Beach. They were pretty cool. Three piece with a kick ass bass player, sort of typical delay heavy yet really simplified indie rock shit that you hear nowadays but they had some energy and held my attention, so I'll check them out in the future. From there it was over to the Emos Annex tent for Frightened Rabbit (really great), some Canadian band that I can't recall (not at all impressive) Jason Collett ( not loud enough but good all the same), and a bunch of free lone star. Then we waited in line for 20 mins or so to see the Shout Out L0uds at Mohawk (again) and more free booze. I'm home now, but tonight I plan on going to see a buddy of mines band at a coffee house and then hit some parties. I'll probably update this as often as possible if anyone cares. Whats the best way to get off of work on a Thursday. I'm about to write my boss an email telling him I have an interview with Lou Reed or something if I can't think of anything better.

so i mentioned a lil bit before on a post that i've been emailing these africans about some sort of bullshit scam. i've been having a pretty good time with it. i'd like to post it all, however, there are so many emails going back and forth it's just so much text. but i myself find it hilarious. i heard that one guy on npr fucking with them and laughed my ass off. so i finally got my opportunity when "mother jane" contacted me as being sick but her husband died in katrina leaving her with millions but she's dying and wants a good soul to have the money to open a "motherless children rescue" it goes on and on. she got me in touch with this guy, barrister frank smith. i call him barista smith. i pretty much write the most retarded thing i can think of without going completely out of control and wait for their reply. i can send more to your emails if you want, it's really too much to post here i think.... here's a clip from last week's episode:

Do you folks watch the Wire?

It's become clear to me that I won't be able to get on with parts of my life that have to do with real things until the Wire ends. Which is fine cuz there isn't much life there to occupy my non-Wire time but it's getting pretty manic gross, the obsession combined with 25cm of snow every week for basically the whole winter. I watched episode 5 of season 5 last night and then basically watched my torrent download of episode 6 until it was done, and then watched that and went to bed. And then at work I mostly look up reactions and discussions and youtubes of the best moments which has gotten me into the trouble of knowing all these things I wish I didn't know. I mean who'd have thunk there'd be videos on youtube of shit from a season that just ended like a few days ago. And it's all stuff from the 4 episodes I haven't seen yet, there's like nothing on youtube from the ones I have. It's different than season 4 for me though, those were so good I usually needed a day or two to digest what happened before watching the next episode. A lot of questionable shit is happening in season 5 and now that I know what's going to happen death-wise I feel like I won't be able to do anything until I get to the end. Today I was reading a stillepost thread on it and someone posted a fucking GIF of how this one arc ends, basically. I wanted to die, and I think I'll feel this way until I watch the last episode.
Anyways, season 5 so far aside, best show ever.*

* I've never watched a full season of the Sopranos.

i worked a long shift last night. lately i've been going out. but when you're thirty it really starts to hurt the next morning when you pretend you're still 23. went and had a cornish pasty with a couple car bombs and a boddingtons. back to my house to drink tequila, german chocolate cake shots and a bottle of japanese shoju while taking my friends' money in poker. at 2:30 a.m. i thought it was would a grand ole time to go to some college girls' house and continue to drink. i believe i participated in throwing a glass table into the pool which broke in the process leaving glass everywhere including the pool. to wake up just now to realize i'm still buzzed which means i'll get the nastied hangover around 4 p.m. today. i'm gonna go buy a new set of irons to golf with i think.

Well, it somehow took me this long to get around to sending this email, but in case you haven't heard, I'm no longer in Kenya these days. Peace Corps temporarily suspended the program the first week in February after it became clear that things were not getting better in the country. They are closing for a number of months, so this is the end for me and Peace Corps Kenya, as I was set to finish in August anyway. It was abrupt, frustrating, and probably unnecessary since much of Kenya - including where I lived - is completely safe and sound. But the overprotective babysitter has given up for the time being.

I took the cash value of my ticket rather than go straight to the US. This email comes to you from Egypt. I've been here about a week, seeing sights, sailing on the Nile, and currently relaxing on the Red Sea coast. I'll be here until the 23rd. From Cairo I'm going to Thailand for probably about a month. Future destinations and plans after that give me plenty to think about on long bus rides here, but are very much unknown right now.

So that's that. Hope you're all well.

it's not like i didn't keep looking at the deuce even when there were no new posts for weeks, it's just when i leave stuff for too long it gets really hard to come back to it. there's usually too much to say although i don't do much of note these days, but i could compare it to how i haven't been to the doctor probably in over 5 years and somewhere in that time it became less about not wanting to go the doctor and more about being afraid of getting in trouble from the doctor for not having been to the doctor in like 5 years. the exact same thing happened to me with confession when i was a kid, you always had to say how long it had been since your last confession and after i got to about a year without going i thought that length of time between confessions was a way bigger deal than the stuff i confessed. and i think that applies here because i think a what, 7 month absence with no warning is a bigger deal than any of the reasons i haven't been around.

basically i moved back home after school cuz i couldn't afford not to and i left behind a lot, and it's been pretty depressing and i guess that makes you fall out of touch a bit with people, and internet people even. i've been working at the stupid government for seven months now, yikes. seems like all my friends from guelph are in or headed in the next few months to japan or one of those countries. i hate it here but friends leaving for things they're excited about somehow strengthens my conviction to stay and watch the real world on mtv.ca until my brains turn to mush. i really can't picture anything after this year. i don't live at home anymore and i'm not even sure if i'm better or worse off for it, one thing i'm certain about is that is hasn't made it any easier to find things to do in ottawa. i hate my job something awful but it's been a bit better the last two weeks as the rideau canal is open and i can skate to work. my oldest sister had a baby in august and named him sam. my uncle died last week after a pretty awful time with cancer. i paid $150 for a hockey stick. i really really liked rabbit, run, and i just finished black swan green by david mitchell which was lovely. i think that about covers it. hey everyone, how have you been? a quick summary of the last 6 or so months will do.
