junior boys
i love the new album so much, i got to see them last night and though i'm sick and i was tired and it was a sunday i can't remember a better show maybe in my life.
i found a youtube of parallel lines from the new disc - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpmmBRbuN_I
i thought the live drummer really brought it to some next level. oh and max tundra opened, i remember our dan didn't like him from the sxsw thread but i thought he ruled too, though i already liked the songs i knew. maybe he was better this time, he was kind of a perfect opener because he was dancing so much and then i guess he was flying back to england or WHATEVER today and he couldn't fit this big yamaha keyboard so he announced he'd give it away to the best dancer and he then he did! but anyways he really like "warmed" the room up i guess and i liked that because he wasn't from canada he didn't have this idea of ottawa sucks in his head so that when everyone was standing around kind of all spaced apart it wasn't like, here we go again this city sucks so much see?, he was just like why are you all so static let's move a bit and kept playing to try to make it happen. i kind of gained an appreciation i think for the way this city doesn't show respect really to people that don't show respect for it, illustrated i guess inversely by this little man from the UK who asked politely for some participation and then got it. an attitude i wish cokey jam bands from toronto taking an hour to set up for playing second on a four band bill would consider taking on.
i could have won the keyboard if it wasn't 8:30 pm on a sunday after mother's day festivities, i'd had like no time to drink.
this was teh last north american date on the tour but shit dudes buy that album, it's called "begone dull care."
how's everyone?

I'll check the album out for sure. When I saw Max it was the typical SXSW nonsense, it was a day show outside at emos so more people were talking than listening, he was playing for 25 minutes and had probably 15 minutes to set up his backlined equipment beforehand, etc. After this positive review I will for sure give him a second chance.
I will keep these two in mind this summer. thanks for the heads up, p.a.
I saw junior boys last year (I think it was last year...) at pitchfork, and was underwhelmed. But I'm totally chalking that up to the outdoor festival. The only time I've ever really loved outdoor music is when I've been pleasantly stoned. I'll still go to pitchfork this year, but only as a vendor. I'm done paying for it.
I'm going to see Dan Bejar play tomorrow night! I hope it's a good one. I'd say it's a 70% chance I will love it, 25% it's meh, 5% I'll find a reason to be pissed off.
Oh! I unknowingly went to a show a couple of weeks ago in which both Calvin Johnson (with Mahjongg) and Ian Svenonius (with Chain and the Gang) played. That was an unexpected treat. Their overall performances were ok and the venue's sound was horrible, but it was still a treat to see the old guard. I desperately wanted Kathleen Hanna to appear next, but she did not :(
Also, I saw Ghost. they were awesome.
go see star trek
that is all
I went to see tv on the radio on saturday night, and ghost was playing at mohawk that night too. On my walk back to my car I told myself I'd walk past mohawk to see if my buddy was working the door but he wasn't and i didnt have enough cash for the cover so I just went home. Kicking myself for missing that now though. This week I am going to see 4 shows including, but not limited to, the following bands; Isis, Pelican, The Melvins, The Thermals, The Shaky Hands, and possibly Propaghandi if I have the strength left.
saw star trek. creamed for new spock.
how was tv on the radio?
I saw the thermals / shakey hands show a few weeks ago in chicago. it was alright, but I'm not huge fans of either. I like the classic rock element to shakey hands and they perform well, but it just doesn't interest me too much. I found the thermals cute and endearing for a song, but incredibly repetitive for a set. My friends, tho, *loved* it, but they are huge thermals fans, so.
Destroyer solo was super nice. bejar looks nuttier than ever, but he was in the best mood I've ever seen him play in -- actually smiling and cajoling -- and his voice and guitar were right on. very lovely.
