sus what is your Wire situation?
I won't write anything on the main post cuz everyone needs to watch this series and I don't want to spoil things. Instead of opening and reading you should watch The Wire. Sus you should be done season 5 by now and I hope our discussion can start on LOL number 1 and continue from there. but don't worry I won't say anything about season 5 until I'm sure it's safe.

So,
Last night I watched the episode where Chris smashes Bug's daddy's face in, I was at my friend's place and it ended and we probably didn't say anything for like 5 minutes after. I forget the exact lines but the guy's like man's gotta bust a nut know what I'm sayin and Chris goes yeah I know what you're sayin, or something like that....holy fuck. and then Snoop's face as he's doing it. That scene was the best cuz the 'you like boys motherfucker?' had nothing to do with the Michael plot, it was like this whole other layer to the characters like Chris that's just touched on and let be. Like Rawls in the gay bar in season 3, it would have been too much to cook that into some scandal plot, all it did was make some later scenes with Rawls a billion times better. Like another one I noticed rewatching season 4 was when he browses through Landsman's porn mag while giving him shit about the witness murder. There's a good one in season 5 too but I don't wanna spoil nuthin.
The worst part of rewatching season 4 is knowing what happens to Randy, I'll probably cry when I see that last scene of Carver leaving the hospital and Randy's like you gon protect me. And oh man that scene with the security guard in season 4 when Marlo says you want it to be one way but it's the other way. I can't believe how perfect season 4 is, and this series has the most replay value of anything I've ever watched cuz every little scene has some importance later on. One of the most devastating is when Namond and the corner kids are being taken out of gen-pop, on their way to the new class they pass the girl who was in the bathroom with those two dudes while Randy was on lookout and she's crying while a police takes down her story. And you know exactly where it's going this time....
Another best thing about rewatching season 4 is paying attention to the Kenard scenes before he steals the money. That kid was one of the best parts of the whole series, the first time Namond and them get booked and he's all I'm not afraid motherfucker to the cop who can carry him like a football.
nope, I still haven't started season 5 yet. there's been a lot of scheduling probelms with my friends, but I think we're also a little hestitant to start becasue we don't want it to be over, like not wanting to read the last chapter of an incredible book.
But we should be starting it soon..
I disagree with the molestation story line coming out of nowhere. They had been hinting at it all along with Michael's aversion to Cutty, which seemed out of left field. And also Michael's general demeanor of being tough, reserved, and independent when all his friends were goofy hinted at something big in his past that effected his character. so when Bug's dad came home, it all made sense.
but Chris' beating was definitely startling. I didn't see that coming.
Chris and Snoop TERRIFY me. my friends love them, but I think they are some of the worst villains ever. I don't care if Marlo is the one giving the orders. Those two are like murder robots.
Season four was the best for me so far. I LOVE those kids, even lucky ass Naimond. I'm so worried about them!! I never cared about what happened to the pit boys as much. Even poor wallace, which was heart-breaking, but i never felt as invested in him.
I've been noticing the Wire actors are popping up on the Law and Orders (which I watch all the time). Michael was featured heavily on an episode last week (he wasn't the bad guy). And on a re-run last night, Rawls played a closeted gay politician! and even Kima's ex-girlfirend was a hospital tech. And I've even seen that the union president is on the Numbers show about Math and solving crime. So this is my new favorite game: spotting Wire people on regular tv. it makes me so happy!
I didn't even make that connection with Bug's dad and Michael. I feel like a dope now cuz it seems so obvious. I just thought Chris recognized something about him and so the murder became half a gay-bashing. There's lots I want to say about Randy but people into this show get mad if even non-spoiler details are given so I'll wait on that. Member Carver beating the shit out of his steerting wheel? I'd say the beating, and that scene, and then Colvin talking to Weebay/Weebay to Dalonda are my favourites ever. Oh and the one where Omar's selling the co-op their shit back and Cheese is like 'this some shameless shit' followed by the exchange with the clock where Omar has his receipt! Oh and Prop Joe calling the police department and doing the different voices trying to find out where Herc works. I was thinking too that that scene really links him and Lester - he does those voices when calling some number in one season I can't remember, it probably happens more than once - and also Joe fixing the electronics equipment like Lester with his miniatures. I don't even watch tv anymore I just watch the Wire.
